Name tani hamagishi-allenAbout Tani Hamagishi-Allen is in her fourth year of studies at Vancouver Island University. Visual arts have been a predominant part of her studies. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with a double minor in visual arts and business. Since beginning her studies at VIU, Tani has received numerous awards for academic excellence. She is very passionate about her work and contributing to the art scene as a emerging artist. She has shown in Vancouver, Victoria, and throughout mid-Vancouver Island. In the past year, Tani has been developing a body of work derived from a series called Porcelain Dolls started in November 2008. This series was influenced by business studies in marketing, focusing on material commodities and perception of value. The series plays on the idea of collectibles and the desire for ownership. Inspired by this concept, Tani has recently included a number of extension series, known as Petite Porcelain Eggs and Doll House. She plans on working further with this concept, hoping to eventually complete the collection. |
