The Porcelain Dolls series is a critical response to my role as a consumer. I am interested in the idea of collectibles and ownership. I am interested in the idea of holding an object dear to you and receiving pride from that possession. I am interested in the tension of feeling both pleasure and guilt as a result of consumerist acts.
This series is about desire and satisfaction. I am looking at true value. Not the retail price but the value personally placed on an object. They are more than pictures on paper. Each Doll is a unique original. They are temptations of colour, glamour, and sensual movement. They are individuals floating in their framed white world. They are waiting in suspension for that perfect viewer that will make a connection and take them home. They are items waiting to be loved and called by name.
From the beginning, this series has become a personal obsession. It has commanded my attention and insisted on being a collection. Each Doll took on its own name and has become a character in my eyes. They are the reflections of my own consumer vices latent within a beautiful disguise. The Porcelain Dolls are those figurines that remain locked in the security of china cabinets. They are treasures; never touched, never used but nevertheless adored and inherited by the next generation.
Please enjoy!
